Hot Snail Summer!
About this Event
Apple Snails are an invasive species that has overtaken parts of the San Antonio River, most especially in the Downtown Riverwalk and along our Museum Reach. They lay egg clutches that can hold up to 2,000 individual snail eggs, and they can lay these clutches once every ten days during their breeding season. With no natural predators in the area, imagine how many snails that could be!
Volunteers need special training provided by the San Antonio River Authority's biologists to be able to remove snails and their eggs safely from the river. Join us on Saturday, August 22nd for an in-person training, followed by a group collection along the river in two main locations.
