Gumbo & The Monk take you on a musical journey of discovery through the history of the Blues. From the juke joints on the cotton plantations in the Mississippi Delta to the big city blues of Detroit and Chicago.With passionate vocals and intense (slide) guitar work they convey the authentic revive the sound of the Primal Blues. To approximate this sound as closely as possible, they make largely using guitars, cigar box guitars and guitars built (or converted) by Gumbo himself primitive tube amplifiers. In addition, both have traveled to the southern US several times to explore the origins, traditions and culture of the original Blues styles there study and experience.
Besides some traditionals, they play songs from, among others. Robert Johnson, Son House, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed.
They tell short stories between the songs stories and anecdotes about blues history, the songs and the instruments used.
There will be space to dance, so slip on your dancing shoes and limber up!
