While Miike’s star was already on the rise, it was Audition that would see the director become a leading figure in the J-horror boom. When widowed Shigharu decides it's time to find a new wife, he’s encouraged by a friend to try auditioning new partners. He soon becomes enchanted by 24-year-old Asami, who isn’t what she appears to be.
