About St Mary Abbots Parish Church
Whilst the present church of St Mary Abbots will be 151 years old this year, there has in fact been a community of worship here for some 1000 years. The earliest record is a mention of a church in the Domesday Book, making it one of the earliest churches to be established in Kensington. Indeed, it was the only one in existence in the area until the nineteenth century.
The present church was completed in its entirety in 1879 and illustrates Sir George Gilbert Scott’s work at its architectural best. St Mary Abbots Parish Church has been at the heart of many lives since then and continues to be a thriving centre supporting the local community to this very day.
