We are excited to revive distance riding on Vancouver Island! Let's bring a long tradition back to life.
On this intro ride, we will go over the "whats" and "how to's" of distance riding, technicalities of an event, safety protocols, conditioning, training - and how to have fun!
We are hoping to host a "full" distance event towards late summer/fall of 2026. So kickstart your summer and get the know-how now, so you'll be ready for the full event later this year!
GROUND RULES:
This is an educational event, not a "race". While we will celebrate completions at the "mock vet check", no excessive competitiveness will be tolerated nor useful - you're not gaining points. ;) The main goal is to have all participants increase their understanding of distance riding, how to take care of their equine partners, and how to successfully complete a ride safe and sound.
All riders and volunteers will need to hold current HCBC membership.
All riders and volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Helmets, headstalls and saddles are mandatory.
All riders and volunteers must sign a liability waiver.
All riders are responsible for their horses (and accompanying minors). Unsafe or negligent animals or behavior that may put any participant or the public at risk lead to an exclusion from the event.
No dogs unless in a safe vehicle or on leash by a participant on foot at all times.
