Honoring Legacy & Envisioning the Future through Afrofuturism
About this Event
Come explore the rich history of Black artists, creators and makers, from past to present, and how their innovations have shaped culture, art, technology, and society.
We will dive into the legacies of historical Black figures who were pioneers in various fields—artists, inventors, architects, musicians, and more—while also exploring the vibrant possibilities of Afrofuturism as a lens for envisioning a powerful future.
Afrofuturism blends elements of science fiction, African heritage, and liberation narratives, imagining futures where Black people are empowered, innovative, and at the forefront of technological and cultural advancement. Through the exploration of Black makers and the vision of Afrofuturism, educators will gain strategies for incorporating the stories of Black creators into their curriculum, while fostering a forward-thinking, inclusive learning environment for their students.
Key Workshop Elements:
- Celebrate the contributions of Black artists, creators, & makers
- Develop an understanding of Afrofuturism
- Design a learning experience that incorporates Black creators &/or Afrofuturism into your curriculum or work
