About this Event
From October 2023 to November 2024, Oxfam hosted 10 listening sessions under the banner, A New Era for Black Women (ANE); we met with over 200 working-class Black women across the American South to discuss their needs, demands, and hopes for the present and future.
In partnership with Morgan State University's Center for Maternal and Family Health (CMAFH), Oxfam continues the work of ANE through Honoring Her Journey: Reenvisioning Black Women's Strength, Care & Wellness.
Professor Megan Simmons, MPA/JD, will lead the exploration of Black women’s experiences in Baltimore City, pre- and post-pregnancy; this includes healthcare access and literacy, childcare, labor equity, emotional resilience, and the "Superwoman” stigma that silences Black matriarchs.
This gathering will feature:
- Delicious bites provided by Morgan State University
- Curated A New Era for Black Women tote bags
- Powerful conversations on Black womanhood and the quality of life we deserve
Together, we'll explore the impact of these intersecting issues on our lives and how collective action can create equity for all. Let’s turn local experience into lasting policy change.
