Learn about how historical homesteading in Joshua Tree National Park shaped the development of the park as we know it today at some of the most famous sites, from Ryan’s Ranch to Wall Street Mill. This class covers resource use and the legacy of mining, ranching, and other activities that can still be observed. The lecture portion of this class takes place at Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters in Twentynine Palms.
The outdoor portion takes place at historical homesteading sites in Joshua Tree National Park.
Anyone may attend! No expertise or experience is required.
Entry to Joshua Tree National Park is included in the cost of enrollment.
No meals or equipment are provided.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Carpooling is encouraged.
This class is leisurely. It requires less than 2 miles of walking with shade, seating, consistent terrain, and little to no elevation gain.
