Homesteading Summer Series
Join us at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Hoke County Center for a fun and hands-on series all about homesteading! Classes will occur on Wednesdays starting at 9am and running until 2-4pm depending on the topics covered. Whether you're a newbie or experienced and just looking to pick up some new tips, we welcome you to come learn, share, and connect with fellow homesteading enthusiasts in a relaxed, friendly setting. Don’t miss out on this awesome summer series! The classes will be offered on the following topic schedule:
June 24 - Gardening, Composting, & Cover Crops
July 1 - Livestock - Meat and Dairy
July 8 - Baking & Honey
July 15 - Processing (we will be using artifical carcass models)
July 22 - Preservation
July 29 - Livestock - Poultry
August 5 - Foraging & Wildlife
You can purchase an "all class pass" to be able to attend every date listed above, or you can purchase tickets to individual classes based on your interests.
Please bring your own lunch to each class that you attend or purchase individual lunch tickets in the add-on section of checkout.

- Special guest Currey Nobles will be bringing his carcass models from NC State to talk through processing technique and cuts
- How to make sausage and jerky
- Curing and smoking meats
July 22 - Preservation
- Special guest Shirley Smith will discuss pressure canner testing and food safety
- Canning demonstration
- Freezing for food storage
- Dehydrating
- Fermenting and pickling
- Making your own pet food with Julie from Well First Pets
July 29 - Livestock - Raising and Keeping Poultry
- Chickens
- Ducks
- Quail
- Turkeys
- Pickling & liming eggs
- Plants for poultry
August 5 - Foraging & Wildlife
- Growing your own mushrooms with log inoculation demonstration
