In this active program, Homeschoolers are introduced map reading and compass use. They will use these items to find locations in the park.
About this Event

Get ready for a family adventure at Claireville Conservation Area!

Join us for an introduction to some of the aquatic and semi aquatic insects, amphibians, fish and macroinvertebrates (aquatic inscts).

You will learn through knowledge sharing, observation and hands on interaction to safely collect and identify macroinvertebrates directly from a shallow tributary to the Humber river.

Individuals and families can join TRCA staff collecting in the stream and learn how to

*Use a D net to collect macroinvertebrates

*Observe and identify a variety of aquatic species

*Use species identification equipment and technology

*Make diagnoses about water health based on real time observations

(Participants do not need to enter the stream to engage in this program. There will be a water safety talk prior to the beginning of ths program. All macroinvertebrates collected will be returned to the stream)

Program is suitable for ages 4-12 - Parents must attend with their child, ticket purchase is for child only. This is not a drop off program.
What to bring:

· If entering the water: Hip waders or rubber boots

· Sunglasses

· Closed toe shoes

· Hat

· sunscreen, and bug spray (if needed)

· Reuseable Water bottle

Program Information

Address: 8180 Hwy 50, TRCA's Etobicoke Field Studies Centre
· Please aim to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled session time to ensure adequate time to sign in.

· Their are washrooms and a water filling station on site at the Etobicoke Field Study centre

· The program will last 2 hours. The hike is low impact but does involve moving through areas with uneven trails and potential tripping hazards.

· Sessions run rain or shine, but are subject to cancellation and modification.

Note: We kindly ask that you cancel your Eventbrite tickets if you anticipate you will not be able to attend your session so others may register. Thank you.
