About this Event
Homeschool: Fall/ Winter 2025-” The ‘ologies”
Get ready to take a deep-dive into some of the different branches of science. Learn how biodiversity, preservation and genetics play a key role in the survival of species, how life on Earth has changed dramatically over time; including humans, and how evidence of all of these changes can be found encased in the layers of rock beneath our feet. Each class will include engaging hands-on labs, lessons and activities that align with the NGS Standards.
Biology: September 3rd 2:00-4:00
From the single-celled paramecium to the Blue Whale, life on Earth is wondrous and diverse. Join Bupree educators in exploring the many kingdoms of life; their similarities and differences as well as their interdependence on one-another and the levels of organization that make up each living thing.
Developmental Biology: September 17th 2:00-4:00
Living things grow and develop in many different ways. Some organisms go through metamorphosis, others simply divide and then there are those that stay with their parents for years growing and developing before venturing out on their own. Learn about different life cycles and the levels of organization that make up living things.
Heredity and Genetics: October 1st 2:00-4:00
Offspring tend to resemble their parents not only in appearance but in behaviors as well. Can you roll your tongue? Chances are, if one of your parents can, so can you. Explore the fascinating science of heredity and genetics and how they play a major role in the survival of all species on Earth.
Ecology and Biodiversity: October 15th 2:00-4:00
Organisms are designed to live and thrive in certain environments. Their roles and relationships within their environment and the diversity of that environment helps to ensure the survival and success of all plants and animals that coexist there. Unfortunately, some organisms are threatened or are losing their habitats. With the aid of Bupree’s newest exhibit, we will explore the delicate balance needed for survival and what humans can do to help.
Paleontology: October 24th 2:00-4:00
Explore past life on Earth through the examination of fossils. Using techniques of a Paleontologist, we will be analyzing and identifying plant, animal and microfossils to better understand the environment and life forms that inhabited our prehistoric world as well as getting to know our famous fossil friends, Jane and Homer.
Geology: November 12th 2:00-4:00
Study the materials, structures, processes and the history of life on Earth by getting up close and personal with the rocks and minerals beneath our feet. How is our Earth’s surface ever changing and what will it look like in the future?
Herpetology: Dec. 10th 2:00-4:00
Scales, tails and claws…..join us in discovering the amazing world of reptiles and amphibians while learning about what exactly a Herpetologist does. Meet some of Bupree’s resident reptiles and learn about some of their cool adaptations and survival skills.
Last Class on the 10th
Due to cost of supplies and staffing, cancellations of less than seven (7) days are non-refundable.
