About this Event
Join Us for Homegrown & Homemade: Backyard Poultry and Cottage Food Production!
This educational program is designed for anyone interested in raising backyard poultry and learning more about Texas cottage food production. Participants will receive a broad introduction to keeping small flocks of laying hens, including poultry feeding, flock health, egg production, and safe egg handling practices. Guest speaker Dr. Greg Archer, AgriLife Extension Poultry Specialist, will share practical tips and expert guidance for those looking to start or improve their backyard flock.
The program will also cover recent updates to the Texas Cottage Food Law, including what foods can and cannot be sold, where and how cottage foods may be marketed, wholesaling and cottage food vendor regulations, labeling requirements, recipe requirements, and basic food safety practices. Whether you’re interested in producing eggs, baking at home, or exploring ways to turn your homegrown and homemade products into a small business opportunity, this program will provide valuable information to help you get started or refresh what you already know.
