About the collaboration
The 2024 Home Sweet Home event is a collaboration between Nikki Glahn, Founder and Executive Director of Barrie Families Unite (BFU), and Amber McAuley, Co-Founder and Director of Restoring Relationships Programs (R & R Programs).
Nikki Glahn started BFU in March 2020 as a way to support families in Barrie in accessing essential supplies and services. The organization currently has a successful fulfillment program in the following categories:
Grocery Gap Orders: Bridging the gap with supplementary grocery orders to augment Food Bank resources.
Clothing and Footwear Access: Year-round access to seasonally appropriate clothing and footwear.
Situational Crisis Support: Providing start-over kits with essentials like linens, towels, and kitchenware during times of crisis.
Amber McAuley has been fundraising and advocating for families since 2014. Her innovative approach to social service work led her to develop R & R Programs. These programs aim to help people navigate challenges associated with mental health issues, discrimination, and involvement in the justice system. The programs are a synergy of restorative/social justice, emotional intelligence, and secular mindfulness practices. In a typical 5-week group program, the following themes are explored:
* Relationships
* Respect
* Responsibility
* Repair
* Reintegration
Ultimately, Nikki and Amber’s networks are creating a circle of care - a unique wraparound approach determined to provide people with a sense of connection and belonging in our community.
