Mark Schatz is a two-time IBMA Bass Player of the Year and a true renaissance man of acoustic music. Known for his work with Tony Rice, Béla Fleck, John Hartford, Nickel Creek, and others, he also shines as a clawhammer banjoist and dynamic performer. His 2021 release Grit & Polish with Bryan McDowell hit #1 on the Folk DJ charts. A master storyteller, Mark blends bass, banjo, guitar, clogging, hambone, and poetry into lively solo shows. Musical Director for Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, he remains in demand on stage and in the studio. He lives in Berkeley, CA with his wife Lisa.
