This home education workshop will introduce children aged 7+ to Alice Gostick. Alice was an art teacher in Castleford in the early 1900s who counted amongst her students none other than Henry Moore!
Attendees will learn that Alice was both an inspiring educator and a talented pottery painter. They will examine some pottery painted by Alice and her students, and discover why painting pottery was a useful skill to have in Castleford at that time. Taking inspiration from what they have learned, they will have a go at painting their own plates in Alice’s distinctive style.
Permanent markers and paint-pens will be used in this workshop. We suggest participants wear old clothes, so it doesn’t matter if they get ink or paint on them.
This session is delivered in partnership with the Community & Family Learning Team at Wakefield Council’s Adult Education Service.
