Santa Monica Mountains Fund, the official partner nonprofit at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, is hosting a free narrowleaf milkweed giveaway!
(click to RSVP):
This workshop will teach you how to turn kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Home composting is taught by a team of ten rotating LA Sanitation & Environment green waste specialists. Each participant will take home a free garden plant at the end of the event. Some workshops even have surprise guests!
About Milkweed:
Narrowleaf milkweed is a gorgeous native plant that serves as a host for monarch butterflies to lay their eggs. Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on milkweed leaves. Help us restore the monarch butterfly population by picking up and caring for your own milkweed plants.
Six to four plants per household will be given out to ensure hungry monarch caterpillars have enough to eat.
