The Great Vigil & First Eucharist of Easter takes place the evening before Easter morning and is the first celebration of Christ’s triumph over death. The service begins with the lighting of the Easter Fire. The Paschal Candle, representing the light of Christ is brought into the church and excerpts from Salvation history are read. Finally, a fanfare sounds, bells ring, and light is restored as we proclaim: “Alleluia! Christ is Risen!”
