Discover the fascinating world of the Holocene epoch and learn how glaciers, mammoths, and early humans shaped the world we know today. Holocene Holiday will showcase the wonders of the Ice Age, from extinct giants like the Columbian Mammoth and Smilodon to animals and plants that survived and still thrive today! Get hands-on in the Ice Age kitchen, test your knowledge about Ice Age animals, and explore some of the weirdest creatures to have ever walked the Earth!

Glaciers: Learn how glaciers shaped the landscape and play an Ice Age Animal Survival game. Will your creature adapt and survive?
Crafts & Prizes: Enjoy themed crafts, explore rare collection items, and visit all the special locations to win a prize!
Get Hands-On
Ice Age Africa: Step right into the Ice Age in the Mahlburg Auditorium as we explore how Africa looked 300,000 years ago! Create cave art, sit around the fire, and see how you measure up against some Ice Age giants!

Cultural and Community Involvement
Burpee Museum’s Holocene Holiday also celebrates the history, natural resources, and the importance of conservation through engaging activities that connect our community to the past and present:
Community Art Projects: Explore artwork inspired by Ice Age life, created by local youth and community members in partnership with Burpee’s educational programs. These projects celebrate our shared history and the resilience of life through time.
Local Landscapes: Learn how glaciers shaped our region and explore Rockford’s unique landscapes and how we can conserve the plants and animals that inhabit these ecosystems.
Join us for a day of fun, discovery, and celebration as we honor the epic history and natural wonders that define our community and our world!

Due to the cost of Staff and materials, any cancellation must be received 7 clear days ahead of the event. A fee of 20% will be deducted from any refund after the initial purchase.
