About this Event
The Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum and the Littleton Museum present Holiday’s Evening on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Littleton Museum. Bring your family and friends to this popular outdoor evening event on the grounds of the living history farms. Be transported back to the winter holidays of the 1800s by costumed interpreters who bring the past to life by demonstrating what life was like in early Littleton.
All activities and refreshments are included in the ticket cost.

Tickets are nonrefundable. You can purchase your tickets online, or at the front desk of the Littleton Museum during normal operating hours, with cash or check (made out to "Friends of Littleton Library & Museum" or "FOLM").

- Storytelling: Hear uplifting holiday stories from the 19th century.
- Preparing Food Over a Fire: Learn about how early settler families would have cooked their Christmas dinner without using an oven. Demonstration of how to make plum pudding and goose, with recipes available to take home.
- The Rise of Victorian Charities: The collection of charitable donations for the poor (in the form of money, coats, food, toys, and more) became a popular part of the Christmas season in the 19th century. Learn about the origins of this generosity and see what a donation drive would have looked like.
- 1860s Decorations in the McBroom Cabin: Visit a homesteading cabin and see their simple decorations, in the time before Christmas trees came inside.
- Victorian Christmas Decorations in the Bemis House: In contrast to 1860, Christmas is now more focused on bringing joy to children. Santa Claus became more prominent in American celebrations, and the cards, presents, and festivities were similar to today’s.
