The 18th edition of the Hola México Film Festival, presented by Toyota All-Electric Family, presents “Sobriedad, Me Estás Matando,” a dark comedy from director Raúl Campos.
Raffi has been sober before. He has also been through five rehabilitation centers, spent seventeen years avoiding anything resembling an ordinary life, and arrived at thirty-nine with no home, no job and very few people still answering his calls. When his latest clinic throws him out, he moves in with Trino, the last friend who hasn’t given up on him.
Then Raffi discovers that Inés, his impossible high-school crush, is newly divorced. Suddenly, recovery has a goal: become employable, appear emotionally stable and convince Inés that beneath the wreckage lives the extraordinary man he has always believed himself to be. Starring Octavio Hinojosa, “Sobriedad, Me Estás Matando” is a sharp and unexpectedly tender comedy about addiction, privilege, friendship and the panic of realizing adulthood may have arrived without you.

Raffi ya ha estado sobrio antes. También ha pasado por cinco centros de rehabilitación, lleva diecisiete años evitando cualquier cosa que se parezca a una vida ordinaria y ha llegado a los treinta y nueve sin casa, sin trabajo y con muy pocas personas que todavía le contestan el teléfono. Cuando lo expulsan de su clínica más reciente, se instala con Trino, el último amigo que no se ha rendido con él.
Entonces descubre que Inés, su amor imposible de la prepa, acaba de divorciarse. De pronto, la recuperación tiene una meta: volverse empleable, aparentar cierta estabilidad emocional y convencer a Inés de que debajo del desastre vive el hombre extraordinario que Raffi siempre ha creído ser.
