The 18th edition of the Hola México Film Festival, presented by Toyota All-Electric Family, presents “Flamingos: La Vida Después del Meteorito,” a documentary from director Lorenzo Hagerman, narrated by Julieta Venegas.
On the northern edge of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, an ancient ritual begins as a race against time. Every year, thousands of Caribbean flamingos gather in a shallow estuary to find a mate, build a nest and bring a new generation into the world. Their courtship can be graceful, awkward and unexpectedly funny. Their survival is anything but simple.
Filmed over nine years, “Flamingos: La Vida Después del Meteorito” enters this extraordinary community at its most vulnerable. With narration by Julieta Venegas, writing by poet Ajo and an original score from Bryce Dessner of The National, the film transforms natural history into an intimate story about love, risk, parenthood and collective resilience.

La 18ª edición del Hola México Film Festival, presentada por Toyota All-Electric Family, presenta “Flamingos: La Vida Después del Meteorito”, un documental dirigido por Lorenzo Hagerman y narrado por Julieta Venegas.
En el extremo norte de la península de Yucatán, un ritual ancestral comienza como una carrera contra el tiempo. Cada año, miles de flamencos del Caribe se reúnen en un estuario de aguas poco profundas para encontrar pareja, construir sus nidos y traer una nueva generación al mundo. Su cortejo puede ser elegante, torpe y sorprendentemente divertido. Sobrevivir, en cambio, no tiene nada de sencillo.
Filmada a lo largo de nueve años, “Flamingos: La Vida Después del Meteorito” entra en esta extraordinaria comunidad durante su momento más vulnerable. Con la narración de Julieta Venegas, textos de la poeta Ajo y música original de Bryce Dessner, integrante de The National, la película transforma la historia natural en un relato íntimo sobre el amor, el riesgo, la crianza y la resiliencia colectiva.
