This slideshow/talk will examine Waltham's place within wider, global flows of hockey history. Topics include ancient folk games, the role of waterways, equipment manufacturing, roller polo, the Montreal game, high school programs and early stars, the Boston Arena's impact, girls' and women's teams, the French connection, public rinks and youth, and the rise of corporate hockey.
George Campbell and Steve Hardy grew up in Waltham. They were football and hockey teammates in junior and senior high school—1960-66—during which time they had the pleasure and honor to learn and grow under legends that included Henry O'Brien, Hal Kopp, and Walter Brinn. Join us Sunday, March 15 at 2 PM on the top floor of the former Bright Elementary School at 260 Grove Street, Waltham. Open to the public. Members of the Waltham Historical Society will have the option to watch via Zoom.
