On Sunday, September 7 at 10 am, please join us at the Parthenon for a morning of architecture, Tennessee history, and art. We will begin with a brief look at the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition (the reason behind the Nashville Parthenon's construction) and will move on to an in-depth tour of the Parthenon, learning about the original construction of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, including its innovative architectural techniques and features, as well as the 1897 Nashville Parthenon and the rebuild from 1921-1931. The tour explores 2,500 years of architectural history as the structure transitioned from Greek temple to Christian church to Ottoman mosque. We will end our tour inside with the magnificent "Monumental Figures," an exhibit of new work by Alan LeQuire. There will be time afterwards to explore the museum on your own. Meet outside the front entrance to the Parthenon building to start the tour.
This is a free event exclusively for HNI members, and tickets and membership are required. Memberships can be purchased or renewed on our website at historicnashvilleinc.org/get-involved/membership.
