The Huntington Museum of Art will offer extended visiting hours on Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and free admission for all Museum guests that day. Refreshments will be served during the event.
“The Museum Store at HMA has invited local artisans to participate in Museum Store Sunday when everything in the Museum Store will be discounted by 10 percent,” said Mollie Ashworth, HMA Director of Guest Services/Museum Store Manager. “On November 30, HMA Museum Members will be able to receive their 10 percent membership discount after the Museum Store Sunday 10 percent discount is applied. This is a great opportunity to make progress on your holiday shopping while supporting the Museum Store and the regional artisans who are taking part in this event.”
Participating vendors include Suzanne Alezander, books signing; Cre8 Studios, mixed media art; Mary Jo Martin, handmade ornaments and hand-painted goods; Michelle’s Geekery, arts & crafts and all things geeky; Ulrika Browning, wood crafts; Maria’s Ornaments, handmade wooden ornaments and bookmarks; Laura Moul with Creative Photography, photography; Guillotine Gifts, prints, stickers, and apparel; art_by_bzanep, ceramics; Melanie Myhre Photography, photography, paintings, and prints; Decorative ARTeries, polymer clay jewelry; and JigglePrints 3D Arts, 3D printed goodies, among others.
Colleen Higginbotham, president of Museum Store Association and deputy director for visitor experience at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia, explains how shopping at museum stores enriches local communities.
“People want to shop locally but often don’t know where to start,” Higginbotham said. “Museum stores make it easy by offering artisan-made goods year-round, serving as a one-stop destination for meaningful gifts—from birthdays to holidays and everything in between. Purchases uplift creators while enabling museums to thrive in the communities they serve.”
While Museum Store Sunday takes place once a year, consumers are encouraged to shop at museum stores for any occasion. Approximately 90 percent of Museum Store Sunday shoppers say they are more likely to shop at museum stores year-round because their purchases support the educational mission of the museum (Source: Museum Store Sunday 2024 Shopper Survey).
