HISTORY UNDER GLASS
About this Event
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, greenhouses became a familiar feature of many of America’s great estates. Among the most celebrated builders was Lord & Burnham, whose glass greenhouses and conservatories appeared on private estates as well as at some of the nation’s best-known public gardens.
Here in Farmington, that history survives at 729 Farmington Avenue, home of the Farmington Historical Society. Attached to our historic mansion is its own Lord & Burnham greenhouse—now weathered and in need of preservation, but remarkably intact,
History Under Glass will bring together speakers to explore the greenhouse’s history, the plans for its preservation, and the possibilities for its future as part of FHC’s historic property.
