The Hjemkomst Museum is inviting the public to our monthly program, History Thursdays! Learn about the unique history of our region from local experts. For November, we are having Dr. George Holley speak on local Native American history.
A new decorative medium appeared in the Late Pre-contact period (AD 1400-1700) in the Upper Midwest and Plains that used flat stone quarried from Pipestone Quarries in southwestern Minnesota. While the red stone from the quarry was used to make the famous catlinite pipes, little is known about the other use of this stone. These flat stones were used as a "canvas" to create incised designs that reveal the exploits, concerns, and world-view of the makers.
History Thursdays is a event is free and open for the public to attend. This event is a collaboration between Hjemkomst Museum, Moorhead Senior Center, and Moorhead Parks & Rec.
