Since the 1850s, the railroads along the Columbia River have driven tourism, immigration, and economic growth, moving people and goods swiftly alongside the “Big River.” Author T. Trent Stetz will explore the history of transportation along the 85-mile-long Columbia River Gorge, from its very first rail lines, to major construction projects in the early 1900s, to the operations of today.
T. Trent Stetz has served as editor and frequent contributor to the National Railway Society’s newsletter for the Pacific Northwest Chapter over the past twelve years. Stentz grew up with a rail museum in his grandparents’ backyard, fueling a lifelong interest in the history of railroads and technology. For the past 20 years as a Portlander, he has been researching and writing about Oregon’s transportation history. Stentz is a retired physicist and currently a board member of the Antique Powerland Museum Association in Brooks, Oregon.
