The United States had 2.5 million miles of roads in 1912, but it was much easier to take the train. Without organized planning, roads stretched to nowhere, and one was lucky to travel on gravel or brick near a city, while changes in weather conditions could make travel impossible over dusty bumps or sticky mud.On Thursday, March 6 at noon, join guest lecturer Ed Kozak at the Ellwood House Museum to learn the story of the nation’s first coast-to-coast road, the “Lincoln Highway,” which passes through DeKalb. Kozak serves as Director-at-Large for the national Lincoln Highway Association.
“History of the Lincoln Highway” is part of “Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series,” free monthly programs offered in collaboration by the Ellwood House Museum and DeKalb County History Center. Registration is not necessary, and participants are welcome to bring lunch and eat during the program.
Brown Bag Lunch/Local Lore is funded in part by the Mary E. Stevens Concert and Lecture Fund. Learn more at ellwoodhouse.org/lectures.
Ellwood House Museum is located at 420 Linden Place in DeKalb. Free parking is available on-site.
Registration suggested.
