Local Historian Rod Davis will talk about The Doolittle Raid, from April 18, 1942.The B-25 raid against Japan on April 18, 1942 has gone down in the annals of World War 2 as a classic example of the courage and ingenuity of American airmen in combat.
Led by the incomparable Jimmy Doolittle, the raid came at a time when the Japanese were advancing unchecked across the Pacific. For America and her allies, the raid was a badly needed morale booster. It was America's first offensive air action against the Japanese home islands.
Rod Davis has made 13 trips to Europe visiting WW2 battlefields and related sites and museums. He has traveled from England to Moscow while covering the major WW2 areas of interest.
His last adventure was a trip to the Pacific area. He followed the major areas that his father’s ship fought in or visited during the Pacific campaign. He visited, Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, Tinian and the Paulus Islands, staying on Peleliu.
Additionally, Rod has read hundreds of books relating to the War.
