About this Event
The Consulate General of Ireland in Munich is delighted to collaborate with the Faculty of History and the Arts of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität on a public guest lecture from visiting professor, Dr Michael Potterton of Maynooth University. This lecture explores contacts between Ireland and the German-speaking world in the Middle Ages, with particular attention to Bavaria. It examines how Irish monks, scholars and pilgrims travelled across Europe from the early Middle Ages onwards, contributing to networks of learning, religion and cultural exchange that connected Ireland with continental centres of power and scholarship. A reception will take place following the lecture, allowing an opportunity for networking and further discussion.
