History Kids Club - Making a Garden

History Kids Club is an interactive program that brings children and young adults into The Historic Village at Allaire to experience life in the past first hand! Every year from March to October, Club members learn what it was like to live and work in an industrial village like The Howell Iron Works by participating in historic crafts and activities. With opportunities ranging from basket-weaving to ore-raising, there’s something on for everyone in 2024!

History Kids Club is recommended for young people ages 5 to 13. Attendees must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Get ready for a year of adventure and excitement as we dive into the past in this fun and educational program.

Flower, fruit, and herb: Plant your own 1830s garden!

The sun is out, the flowers are blooming, and spring is here! It’s time to break out the gardening gloves and get messy! Gardening was an important part of life in the 19th century. Whether a person ran a farm, tended an orchard, turned over a household garden, or just kept a window box, there was plenty of opportunity to enjoy the green at The Howell Iron Works. Join History Kids Club as we tour our historic gardens and learn all about how and why they were planted. Then put your green thumb into action outside our Gardener’s Cottage, where you’ll learn to lay out a period garden and try out historic planting tools. And don’t leave before planting a herb, shrub, or flower of your choice to take home or grabbing your themed activity book!

New for 2024: Two Time Slots! one from 11am to 1pm and again from 2pm to 4pm. Make sure to select the desired time slot when buying tickets!
