History Hot Spot: Birkmose Mounds

Join us for a History Hot Spot at Birkmose Park, Wednesday, July 22 of RiverFest from 3pm to 6pm. Friends of Birkmose Park & Mounds, along with Octagon House Museum
Tours offered: at 3pm and at 5pm Take an interpretive tour of the Birkmose Mounds covering general history, archaeology, and preservation of mounds. The guided tour is 45-60 minutes and costs $15/person (payable ahead of time or on-site).
The "Ask Us!" table and entrance to park is free of charge. There will be an archaeologist and historian, with local recommended books for sale, flyers/brochures for Friends of Birkmose Park and Octagon House Museum (Hudson Area History Connection).
We will highlight the history of Birkmose Park as a sacred and historically significant space dating back over 2000 years to ancestors of the Dakota and Ho-Chunk tribes. An information table will be on-site from 3pm to 6pm for visitors to talk about park and mound history with an archaeologist, historian, and local enthusiast. Take-away information will be available, as well as recommended books for sale.
