Join us as we host History for Lunch: Legacies of Survival: Enslaved People's Journeys through the Civil War on Wednesday, July 17th at 12 pm.
Joshua Strayhorn, PhD, a Mellon Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow with the National Park Service, will discuss the legacies of freedom seekers in North Carolina by highlighting how enslaved people used the strategies they developed during slavery, such as running away, marronage, and resistance, to advocate for themselves during the Civil War and beyond. He will highlight how enslaved people’s knowledge of the environment in and around eastern North Carolina helped them evade capture, negotiate their labor, and create freedom for themselves.
The Museum will offer the History for Lunch program in-person and through Zoom. To attend the lecture virtually, register in advance by clicking here to receive the link:https://www.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItcu6uqj8rEhrzO-hjZKPis7LMfL774IA#/registration
Registration is not required to attend the lecture in person.
The virtual program is supported by Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle.
