History & Conservation of Black-crowned Night Herons in Chicago's Lincoln Park with Henry Adams

Join Henry Adams, an ecologist from the Lincoln Park Zoo's Urban Wildlife Institute, as they discuss the history and conservation of Chicago's population of urban, Black-crowned Night Herons, an endangered species in Illinois. Adams will share their methods for monitoring and managing this population of birds, which nests at the Lincoln Park Zoo, and the movement, health, and habitat selection-related research that their team has been conducting to contribute to the conservation of this endangered species.Henry Adams (they/them) is a wildlife health ecologist, science educator, and illustrator currently living in Chicago, Illinois, the traditional homelands of the Ojibwe, Odawa, Potawatomi and many other Indigenous peoples. Henry leads the Urban Night Heron Conservation Program, a collaborative research team that investigates the habitat selection, movement and health of urban, Black-crowned Night Herons in Chicago, and spearheads various urban biodiversity monitoring and education initiatives through their work at the Lincoln Park Zoo and in the community. They seek to use education, art, and intersectional ecological research to empower and create space for Queer joy and community in nature.
Lake County Audubon Society has a variety of speakers on the first Monday of the month October through May. All (including children accompanied by an adult) are welcome to come for the free programs and refreshments 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
