About this Event
Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer and Dr. Gregg Drinkwater discuss historical stories about antisemitism in San Francisco's & California's LGBGTQ+ community. Too often, individuals and groups spreading anti-semitism are also targeting the LGBTQ+ community. Learning about these historical perspectives can help bring awareness and create possibilities for working together against common sources of hatred. Educational and inspirational stories of queer resilience will provide bread for the journey ahead.
Dr. Gregg Drinkwater is the Program Director of the Antisemitism Education Initiative (AEI), a project of UC Berkeley's Center for Jewish Studies. A scholar of queer Jewish history and former director of a national LGBTQ Jewish nonprofit, Drinkwater's work is rooted in fostering inclusive communities. He has been involved for decades with Jewish, LGBTQ, and social justice organizations throughout the United States. He is co-editor of the book "Torah Queeries: Weekly Commentaries on the Hebrew Bible," and earned a PhD in U.S. History at the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a specialization in Jewish history and LGBTQ history.
Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer, PhD and DMin, is a social justice influencer known for their advocacy with the homeless and LGBTQ communities who has been featured on Netflix's Queer Eye, Cosmo, People and publications around the globe. His latest book for Arcadia Publishing's Images in America Series tells the history of San Francisco's Transgender District (https://amzn.to/4iNebEr) with historic images from the 1880's through the present and is available for pre-order now.
