About this Event

Did you know that one of the most significant archaeological sites in the United States is right here in Oklahoma?

The Spiro Mounds in southeast Oklahoma were home to an incredible ancient civilization. When excavated in the 1930s, the astonishing cache of artifacts was so rich that the Kansas City Star compared the discovery to King Tut's tomb! The Spiro civilization formed the historical and cultural anchor for later Native American communities and created an extensive East-West trade for regional exchange, which added to the deep historical context and significance of Council Grove as a vital meeting and trade center.

Join us for this special presentation and trace the history of Oklahoma from its most ancient roots to the later tribal histories that shape our state.

Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.

Presenter: Eric D. Singleton, PH.D., McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture and Curator of Ethnology, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
