Historical High Town and Beyond: Part Two
About this Event
IMPORTANT - date changed. Now taking place on Friday 21 August.
Did you know that High Town once had a cinema, trams, and even a windmill? Or that the end of High Town Road was chopped off by the Midland Railway company 160 years ago? Or that Wardown Park has a tree dedicated to a warship that Luton adopted during World War II?
Join us for a photographic journey centred on High Town, from the 1860s to the present day, with local historian and archivist Chris Grabham. Over two sessions you'll discover some of the fascinating history and hear stories about this historic part of Luton. We’ll also look at some of the town centre’s lost buildings and see how the railways separated High Town from the centre of Luton. We’ll even stray over the border into Round Green!
Part one takes place on Friday 19 June and part two is on Friday 26 June. You are welcome to attend just one of the talks, but we recommend attending both to benefit from a fuller story of High Town and beyond.
