Have you ever wondered how many historic treasures
are hidden throughout California? Our upcoming
program will feature George Midwin, who will share a
fascinating journey that began quite by accident.
After retiring, George happened upon information
about California's State Historic Landmarks and
thought visiting them might make an interesting hobby.
Little did he know that this simple idea would become a
decade-long adventure. California is home to 1120
designated State Historic Landmarks, and over the past
ten years George and his wife have visited more than
1000 of them.
Their travels have taken them to well-known destinations such as the Winchester Mystery House, as well as
remote and little-known sites that few Californians ever
have the opportunity to see. Along the way, they have
uncovered remarkable stories about the people, places,
and events that shaped our state's rich history.
For this presentation, George has selected a variety of
landmarks from throughout California to give us a
glimpse into his travels and introduce us to historical
sites we may never have known existed. While it would
take far more than an hour to cover all 1,000-plus
locations, George has assembled a collection of
highlights that promise to be both educational and
entertaining. He will also be available to answer
questions following the presentation.
