Located east of Corpus Christi and serving as the only established town on Mustang Island, Port Aransas holds a unique blend of serene coastal beauty and shadowy historical intrigue. At the center of this town stands the storied Tarpon Inn, a structure dating back to 1886 that has seen it all—from the bustling days of post-Civil War recovery to devastating hurricanes and fires.
Built initially as housing for jetty workers and constructed with surplus lumber from Civil War barracks, this historic inn has served as a sanctuary and a focal point for tales of both triumph and tragedy.

THE PARANORMAL
==============
With its long history marred by violence and tragedy, the Tarpon Inn is no stranger to paranormal lore.
One of the most unsettling reports involves a young bride who was abandoned by her fiancé on their wedding night. Heartbroken and inconsolable, she was found hanging in the honeymoon suite, Room 29.
To this day, guests report the faint scent of floral perfume wafting through the room and have claimed to see her ghostly form swaying gently in the moonlight.
Room 40, perhaps the most active of them all, has left a lasting impression on guests and staff alike.
Visitors have recounted eerie experiences, such as lights flickering without explanation, disembodied voices whispering in the darkness, and the unnerving sight of a woman standing at the foot of the bed. One chilling EVP recorded by a staff member captured a voice saying, "We are watching you," further cementing the room’s reputation as a paranormal hotspot.
The hauntings are not confined to the guest rooms. The breezeway has been a site of reported ghostly activity, with sounds of children laughing and running heard late at night when no children were present.
The inn’s restaurant, Roosevelt’s, named in honor of its past guest, President Roosevelt, has also seen its share of spectral occurrences.
Staff have reported the sensation of being watched, unexplained footsteps, and the sudden clatter of kitchen tools when no one is near.
The ghostly activity at the Tarpon Inn is thought to be tied to its turbulent history.
The inn’s use as a shelter during storms, the tragic deaths that have occurred on-site, and its deep-rooted connection to the land, once home to both celebrations and conflicts, have left an indelible mark.
Some stories even tell of a murder involving a chef and waiter that culminated in the deadly throw of a meat cleaver, adding another dark chapter to the inn’s legacy.
