Historic Stuart Street Walking Tour
About this Event
Walk Historic Stuart Street — Denver's Hidden Gem of Victorian Mansions
Step back into 1890s Denver on a guided walking tour of the Stuart Street Historic District, one of the city's best-kept architectural secrets. This tight cluster of homes was designed by William Lang and Marshall Pugh — the visionary duo behind some of Denver's most dramatic Victorian architecture — commissioned by developer Ralph Voorhees as a showcase row of six residences.
The tour's centerpiece is the Spangler House at 1442–1444 Stuart, built in 1890–1892 for the widow of former Arapahoe County sheriff Mike Spangler. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the home still carries its original stained glass, ornate staircase, and hand-laid fireplaces — details that place it among the most storied addresses in the city.
Along the way, you'll hear the stories behind Lang's signature turrets, gargoyles, and polychromatic stonework, and learn how this small stretch of West Colfax became a living museum of Denver's Gilded Age ambition — hiding in plain sight.
Come see why Stuart Street is Denver history you can walk through.
