About this Event
Greenbelt, Maryland, a National Historic Landmark planned community, was built in 1937 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. The town was designed as a garden city that would be a model of modern town planning and cooperative living in America. It features notable Art Deco-style architecture, fine examples of WPA-era outdoor sculpture, and an innovative design that includes walking paths that connect the homes to green spaces and the town center. We invite you to explore Greenbelt’s rich history which continues to shape the community to this day.
This tour leaves from the Greenbelt Museum at 10-B Crescent Rd. and takes approximately 90-120 minutes. It involves walking outdoors, please dress accordingly. Space is limited to 12 participants. The tour begins with a viewing of an orientation video and concludes with a short tour of the interior of the Museum's historic house.
Parking is available at the Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent Road, behind the Greenbelt Public Library. The museum is a short walk from this parking lot.
Walking tours are not conducted in thunder/lightning or snow storms or if the temperature is below 32 degrees or above 95 degrees.
