✨About Vancouver Ballet Folklórico✨
Vancouver Ballet Folklórico (VBF) is a nonprofit dance organization based in Vancouver, WA, dedicated to preserving and sharing the beauty of traditional Mexican folk dance. Founded in 2014 by Anna Cruz and Jesús Chávez, VBF has grown from a small group of young dancers into a community treasure, performing across the region and hosting signature cultural celebrations like Día de Muertos / Luminarias.
Through vibrant costumes, spirited choreography, and programs like Tepeyac (focused on pre-Hispanic dance), VBF both engages new generations of Hispanic youth and shares Mexican traditions with the wider community—bringing heritage to life through art, movement, and joy.
✨Why We Celebrate✨
Hispanic Heritage Month (observed from September 15 to October 15 annually) honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Recognizing this heritage is important because:
- Representation matters: Highlighting diverse narratives helps foster inclusion and belonging in our communities.
- Cultural heritage is living: Dance, music, storytelling, and traditions are part of our shared identity, preserved through active participation.
- Bridge-building: Events like this open doors to understanding, respect, and unity across cultural lines.
- Inspiration & education: Youth and families can see themselves reflected on stage, which strengthens pride and connects newer generations to ancestral roots.
- By celebrating together, we send a message that every voice and story matters.
