About this Event

Come out to Hirundo Wildlife Refuge and join our BioBlitz efforts! Enjoy a day outdoors while supporting scientific research.

  • Location: Hirundo Wildlife Refuge
  • Time: 9am - 5pm

Spend 15 minutes, an hour, or the whole day exploring and identifying if you would like!

This is a self guided & FREE event!

During our Bioblitz become a community scientist and help us catalouge the species are Hirundo Wildlife Refuge! Use the iNaturalist app to observe and record various species at the Refuge while you explore. Spend the day outdoors capturing images of wildlife, and discovering unique finds while on the trails. No experience is required. The app will identify and catalog each species for you! Everything you enter into the app is placed in a large database for tons of researchers and conservaiton enthusiasts alike.

During the BioBlitz please feel free to come and go within the refuges open hours. Spend an hour or the entire morning/afternoon at the Refuge taking photographs of wildlife found at Hirund. Go out alone or with a group. Most importantly, enjoy your time outdoors!

Other Event Info:

  • Location: 1107 West Old Town Road, Old Town ME (Hirundo Wildlife Refuge Gate 1)
  • Trails: You may travel any trails, there are hard packed gravel ADA Trails available as well (availability may change with season/winter) - check out all of our trails and find out more HERE.
  • Bathrooms: there are two pit toilets available at the gate 1 trails, one is ADA accessible. However, there is no running water or lights.
  • Hiking/Trail Conditions: most of the trails have little to no elevation changes. These trails may be wet and muddy at times. Expect rooted and rocky trails along the way.
  • How to prepare: This event will be entirely outdoors - so dress accordingly for the weather!
