Hip-Hop Workshop II: Foundations, Musicality and Culture with Damien Slade
About this Event
In this workshop, Damien Slade will introduce participants to foundational hip-hop movement while developing their ability to hear, interpret, and respond to music. The class will explore groove, rhythm, coordination, movement quality, and the relationship between foundational vocabulary and personal expression.
Participants will work in a supportive environment designed to build confidence while strengthening the skills needed to learn and perform choreography. The workshop is appropriate for adults returning to dance, dancers exploring hip-hop for the first time, and experienced movers who want to reconnect with foundational practice.
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Durham, Damien has taught gymnastics and hip-hop to children and adults for more than 25 years. His professional experience includes choreographing for the Bronner Brothers Hair and Fashion Show, opening for Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, and Destiny’s Child, and auditioning for Usher, TLC, Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, and So You Think You Can Dance.
Damien’s teaching emphasizes musicality, technique, performance skills, cultural appreciation, confidence, and the joy of movement.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing and clean athletic shoes reserved for indoor use.
