Pt4: Hip Hop Jam Session! - hosted by Nathan Shelby as part of the Winter Workshop Series. The first three instalments of the VCM's 4 part workshop series “Mechanics of a rap flow” are about defining concepts, the fourth is focused on their application - it's time to jam! Here we will examine different styles of vocal presentation in a rap performance and what makes them distinct. We also look at how the writing process and literary components can affect flow, and the importance of communicating energy through music. This session will have amps, a grand piano, mics, and a drum kit provided where we’ll get to jam. Bring your guitar or bass if you like or bring some rhymes!
Although all 4 workshops are available to be attended individually, they are designed to be experienced in sequence for the most complete overview of the inner mechanics of rap flows! The workshop will run Monday March3rd starting at 7pm, with the first portion for our theory topic, followed by a Q&A, and we will finish the evening with a live rap freestyle cypher session!
Microphones will be provided and feel free to bring an instrument if you'd like to participate as an instrumentalist. The cypher is open to all ages and skill levels but not required!
Drums, amps, grand piano, mics, and a pa will be provided.
Registration: $10.
