Hilton High School's production of "The Odyssey: A Comedy, Mostly"

Hilton High School's production of "The Odyssey: A Comedy, Mostly" adapts Homer’s Odyssey for the contemporary stage, tracking Odysseus’s perilous and unpredictable voyage home after the Trojan War. Penelope holds the household together while confronting an obstinate band of suitors; Telemachus searches for news of his father and grows into his role as successor. Athena intervenes repeatedly to steer events in Odysseus’s favor, while Poseidon’s wrath creates storms and obstacles that repeatedly divert the journey. Along the way Odysseus faces a sequence of dramatic encounters: the hulking Cyclops Polyphemus; the enchanted isle of Circe; the alluring, dangerous songs of the Sirens; and the nymph Calypso, who detains him on her island for an extended period. An ensemble of sailors, servants, and minor gods populate the shifting scenes and help propel the action across islands, seas, and schemes. The play culminates in Odysseus’s return to Ithaca and the final confrontation that resolves the conflict between him, his household, and the suitors.
