Looking for a full-day adventure through the Texas Hill Country? Hop aboard our signature ride — the Hill Country Flyer. Since 1992, this classic excursion has been a favorite for families, friends, and day-trippers looking to experience a unique blend of history, Hill Country views, and small-town charm.Your journey begins at the Austin Steam Train Association’s Cedar Park Depot and takes you on a 66-mile round trip aboard our beautifully restored vintage train. Along the way, you’ll cross the scenic trestle bridge over the South San Gabriel River and wind through Short Creek Canyon — all from the comfort of a restored historic railcar pulled by a diesel locomotive.
Midway through the trip, enjoy a two-hour layover in the town of Burnet, where you can explore the historic square, browse local shops, and enjoy lunch on your own at one of the local restaurants (reservations are recommended). Then, settle in for a relaxed ride back, soaking in the experience of railroading the way it used to be.
Whether you’re a longtime train enthusiast or simply searching for a meaningful way to spend time with loved ones, the Hill Country Flyer is a moving museum journey you won’t forget.
