Who's up for a hike to Goat Mountain Lookout this Saturday? Weather permitting! We are excited to begin work on a new exhibit, which will feature our cherished Taylor cabin. We will tell the history of forest management including the era of fire suppression strategies, which used fire watch towers like this one at Goat Mountain. Malcom Taylor, son of Boot Taylor, worked this fire lookout. Malcom had polio and couldn't climb the steps, so he backed up the steps one at a time on his seat, and stayed in the tower for the whole season! People brought him meals and supplies. Malcom was so good at spotting fires he earned the nickname Eagle Eye. We will leave our park at 9 a.m. sharp and hike the trail at Teaford Saddle Road East of the Cal Fire station.
