Details: Look in any book about wildflower hikes in Oregon and you will find Iron Mountain in it. So yeah, you get to hike up to a top of a mountain and see epic views, but this hike is all about the wildflowers.Map:

Driving time: 3 hours
Entry or parking fee: $5 or the usual passes such as Northwest Forest Pass, National Park Pass, etc.
Hike route: Loop hike via Cone Peak Trail, Iron Mountain Trail, and Santiam Wagon Road.
Difficulty level: Strenuous
Elevation gain: 1780 feet
Distance: 7.3 miles
Pluses: Views (from Iron Mountain's summit) to Mount Jefferson and its many other Cascades friends and neighbors. Mere words cannot describe the wildflowers, they have to be experienced in person.
Minuses: At the trailhead, parking can be at a premium. Understandably, the trail gets quite busy this time of year. This hike is out of our customary driving distance range, but is well worth the 3 hour drive to get there.

On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building.
Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking.
If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver.
We will follow current official Oregon Covid-19 guidelines, whatever they may be at the time. Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
The club hikes every other Saturday, rain or shine. Hiking is free, everybody is welcome.
