High & Upper Middle School: Lights, Camera, ACTION! FREE Filmmaking Workshop
What does it actually take to make a movie? 🎬
Join us at Calliope Stage for Lights, Camera, ACTION!, a FREE hands-on filmmaking workshop for high school and upper middle school students led by WCU teaching artists Niyah and Spencer.
In this three-hour workshop, participants will go behind the scenes to explore the fundamentals of filmmaking—including storytelling, screenwriting, camera work, lighting, directing, and acting—while working with real filmmaking equipment.
Then they’ll put those skills into practice.
Working in small groups, students will collaborate to develop, shoot, direct, and perform in their own short films, experiencing how all the different pieces of filmmaking come together from the first idea to “Action!”
Filmmaking brings together many art forms at once: writing, acting, visual composition, design, technology, collaboration, and storytelling. This workshop gives participants a chance to experiment with several of those roles while seeing what it takes to turn an idea into something made for the screen.
No previous filmmaking experience is required. Whether you’re interested in acting, directing, writing, camera work, or simply curious about how movies get made, there’s a place for you in the process.
